  • Clothing
Glasgow comedian and actor Sir Billy Connolly famously said of Scotland that “there’s no such thing as bad weather, only the wrong clothes”.

It’s true that no matter what the season, the weather in Scotland can be “changeable”. We suggest that you bring suitable clothing for all conditions, including a waterproof jacket and plenty of layers, particularly in the winter months.

Ensure you bring shoes that are suitable for short walks on rough or uneven terrain and, if you plan to do any hiking, we recommend appropriate boots.

    The infamous Scottish midge
In the spring/summer months, we highly recommend you pack insect repellent to keep midges away, especially in the highlands. While bites aren’t painful at the time, they can become itchy and uncomfortable afterwards.

    Cash or card?
Although all attractions we visit accept card payments, we would also recommend bringing cash with you.

    And…
Don’t forget a camera to snap the fantastic memories you’ll make on tour with us!

Discover the magic of the Scottish Highlands on this unforgettable 1-day tour from Glasgow or Edinburgh. Designed for small groups and private travellers, this scenic journey blends legendary landscapes, Highland history, and one of the most famous railway bridges in the world.

Leaving the city behind, we’ll travel north on a private day tour of Scotland through breathtaking scenery and story-filled landscapes. From Glasgow, our route winds through Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park—a region of glittering lochs, forested hills, and postcard-perfect views. From Edinburgh, we head west towards Stirling before crossing the wild beauty of Rannoch Moor, one of Europe’s last true wildernesses.

Our first stop is the highland village of Tyndrum, a welcoming rest point where you can enjoy a coffee and soak up the mountain air. From here, we journey deeper into the Highlands towards Glencoe, a place of haunting beauty and deep historical significance. We’ll return later for a longer visit, but even your first glimpse of this dramatic valley will leave a lasting impression.

The highlight of the day is undoubtedly Glenfinnan Viaduct, the 21-arch bridge made famous by the Harry Potter films. With a little luck, you’ll catch the Jacobite Steam Train as it crosses the viaduct — one of Scotland’s most photographed moments. You’ll also have time to explore the nearby Glenfinnan Monument and admire the tranquil setting of Loch Shiel, surrounded by towering mountains and timeless views.

We continue to Fort William, the gateway to Ben Nevis and the outdoor capital of the Highlands, where you’ll have free time for lunch at one of the town’s many local cafés or restaurants.

Our return south includes a longer stop in Glencoe, where your driver-guide will share stories of clan rivalries, resilience, and life in this awe-inspiring glen. It’s the perfect end to a scenic day trip through the Highlands, before we make a relaxed journey back to your accommodation.

Whether you’re seeking breathtaking scenery, Highland history, or a touch of movie magic, this is one of the best 1-day tours in Scotland — a perfect way to experience the Highlands from Glasgow or Edinburgh.

Please note: The Jacobite Steam Train is operated by a third party and its schedule is beyond our control.
