Clothing
Glasgow comedian and actor Sir Billy Connolly famously said of Scotland that “there’s no such thing as bad weather, only the wrong clothes”.
It’s true that no matter what the season, the weather in Scotland can be “changeable”. We suggest that you bring suitable clothing for all conditions, including a waterproof jacket and plenty of layers, particularly in the winter months.
Ensure you bring shoes that are suitable for short walks on rough or uneven terrain and, if you plan to do any hiking, we recommend appropriate boots.
The infamous Scottish midge
In the spring/summer months, we highly recommend you pack insect repellent to keep midges away, especially in the highlands. While bites aren’t painful at the time, they can become itchy and uncomfortable afterwards.
Cash or card?
Although all attractions we visit accept card payments, we would also recommend bringing cash with you. And…
Don’t forget a camera to snap the fantastic memories you’ll make on tour with us!
Excursion Itineraray
Your day begins with a warm welcome at the Greenock cruise terminal before we set off on a scenic journey into the heart of the Scottish Highlands. Travelling north along the River Clyde, we make our first stop in the charming village of Luss, nestled on the bonnie banks of Loch Lomond. Take time to stroll along the waterfront, capture the views across Scotland’s largest loch, and explore the picturesque cottages that make Luss one of the country’s prettiest villages.
From here, we continue our adventure through Glen Croe, climbing towards the famous Rest and Be Thankful viewpoint. This spectacular mountain pass divides Glen Kinglas from Glen Croe and offers sweeping views of Argyll’s rugged hills. It’s a great spot for photos and a chance to hear the story behind its unusual name, carved into stone by 18th-century soldiers who built the original road.
Descending into the valley, we follow the shores of Loch Fyne towards Inveraray, a whitewashed Georgian town and the ancestral seat of the Duke of Argyll and Clan Campbell. Here you’ll have free time to explore, browse the local shops, or visit Inveraray Castle and Gardens (entrance not included). The castle is open Thursday to Monday during the main season, while on Tuesdays and Wednesdays you can still enjoy the grounds or visit the fascinating Inveraray Jail — a remarkably well-preserved 19th-century prison.
After lunch and free time in Inveraray, we journey along the quieter side of Loch Fyne before tracing the peaceful waters of Loch Eck towards Dunoon, a seaside town on the Cowal Peninsula. To round off your Highland adventure, we’ll cross the Firth of Clyde by ferry (included) — a short but scenic 20-minute sailing that offers one last chance to admire the views before returning to Greenock Port.
This full-day tour blends lochs, mountains, castles, and coastal scenery — a perfect taste of the West Highlands for those visiting Scotland by sea.
